Smithsonian Closure/Dismissal Procedures

The primary objective of Smithsonian Alerts is to share information when an event has occurred that may affect the operating status of Smithsonian museums.

On this page, when applicable, you will find an "ALERT" -- where museum operations information will be posted.

Additionally, Smithsonian Alerts offers a variety of information, advice, and useful links to other sites to help prepare your family for an emergency.

All Smithsonian Museums in the Washington DC metro area, including the National Zoo and the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center, will be closed on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Only emergency employees should report to work.

Smithsonian Mobile alerts

In a critical emergency, Smithsonian Mobile Alerts will be used to send voicemail messages and emails to registered participants.
